Death of a Waterfall
The Blurb:
Teghan Jacobs didn’t think anything could be worse than learning she’s pregnant by a man she’s been dating less than six months. Boy was she wrong. Her mother, whose drowning in the river of denial, refuses to take a side on the issue. Her overbearing, manipulative father threatens to disown her and cut her off from her trust fund if she doesn’t have an abortion. And she’s lying to all of her friends for fear of being ostracized.
Donnie Marks couldn’t be happier. The woman he loves, the woman he fought so hard to be with, is going to have his baby. Life has never been better. But when she shows up in his dorm, sobbing and heartbroken, he learns the horrible truth of what happened. He vows to get revenge on the man who’s responsible: Teghan’s father.
…Guess what you guys? Kara was kind enough to drop by the blog an answer a couple of questions about Death of a Waterfall. FYI, this is bookishblurb’s FIRST EVER author interview. And so, without further ado, I give you the awesome Ms. Kara Leigh Miller:
BookishB:  Hey Kara! Thanks for stopping by to chat with us. Death of a Waterfall sounds amazing (note: I’ve read an ARC of DoaW & I can tell you it’s brilliant). What inspired you to write it?
Kara:  Hi, Louise. Thanks for inviting me =) And let me just say how honored and humbled I am that you think Death of a Waterfall is brilliant. That’s such a huge compliment.
Okay, to answer your question, I don’t know. lol. Death of a Waterfall was my first attempt at writing a full-length novel. I’d always had these two characters in my mind: Donnie and Teghan. I knew their names and I knew what they looked like. But I had no idea what their story entailed. So, I just sat down one day (about two years ago) and began to write. In the early versions, Donnie and Teghan were in high school. Then I had them in college. Then they went back to high school. Then I had them in their mid-thirties. None of it seemed to work–until I joined my writers group and they gave me a TON of great ideas. It was that group that really inspired the story that it has become. I’m very thankful to have found them.
BookishB: What’s you favorite scene from Death of a Waterfall?
Kara:  Oh, wow, that’s a tough question. There are so many of them. If I had to pick just one it would have to be the scene when Donnie and Teghan drive up the coast and spend the day at the beach. They really get to know each other and connect in that scene. Plus, it’s the first time they make love 😉
BookishB:  Does Death of A waterfall have a playlist? Tell us a bit about what’s on it?
Kara:  I don’t have a specific playlist, but there were a few songs that inspired me. LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It”, Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There for You”, Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game”, and Pink’s “Fuckin’ Perfect”.
BookishB: What can we expect from the next book in The Hayden Falls saga?
Kara:  *Claps my hands and smiles wickedly*
Well, there are two more books in the Teghan/Donnie story and there are a lot more twists and turns coming. Teghan continues to spiral out of control. She engages in some very risky behavior, including getting in the car with a total stranger and going for a joyride. She’s partying and drinking non-stop–until she meets Bradley Moore–a sexy new man on campus who knows how to push her buttons. The truth about Donnie is finally revealed, including where he was the night Teghan went to her father’s house. That will cause a lot of tension between the two of them. So, in addition to dealing with her father, the truth about Donnie, and her own personal demons, she now has to decide if her relationship with Donnie is worth saving or if she wants to take a chance with Bradley.
Rob continues to wreak havoc on the lives of everyone around him.
Oh, and Teghan has a near fatal accident that will leave her questioning everyone in her life.
BookishB:  Just for fun. Who would play your main characters in the Death of a Waterfall movie?
Kara:  Jeez, I don’t know. lol. When I first started writing this a few years ago, I always had the notion of a young Mark Wahlberg playing Donnie. Other than that, I’m clueless, which is a common occurrence for me.
Thanks so much much for spending five minutes with us, Kara!! DEATH OF A WATERFALL is the first book in THE HAYDEN FALLS SAGA — an exciting new series from the author of THE GEORGIA CORBINS and THE AURORA ISLAND RESORT SERIES.
