Howdy guys and girls! Today on the blog I’m chatting to the lovely Melinda Dozier about her adult

contemporary romance, Time Changes Everything!

But before we talk books, let me introduce you to the lovely Melinda…

Reading romance has always been at the top of Melinda’s favorite past times. After hectic days of teaching English to middle school students, Melinda finds time to write and read in the evenings. She lives in Guatemala, Central America with her husband, three boys and German Sheppard. She enjoys being the queen of her household and dreams of being pampered fully by her boys once they are grown. Melinda loves reality TV, traveling, blogging and playing Words With Friends.

And now the books:

Time Changes Everything will be available May 13 through Entranced Publishing!

LEAD Technologies Inc. V1.01

Amanda Larson is dedicated to her job and doesn’t want to make time for anything else. Until she runs into Jake Edwards. He used to be the cute boy next door; now he’s a sexy, big shot lawyer.

Jake Edwards isn’t interested in commitment. He’s successful, sexy, and single–and that’s how he likes it. When he reconnects with Amanda, Jake realizes he might have to rethink his philosophy on the carefree, bachelor lifestyle.

But, is it too late for them? Or can he convince her that he’s ready to give her his heart?

Okay, you  guys so here’s the deal…I thought instead of asking Melinda a bunch of questions about Time Changes Everything via email, it would be fun to have a live chat via Google and share that transcript with you in all its rough, unedited glory. Sooooo here goes:

Me: Hi Melinda! Thanks for dropping by to chat with me…
Melinda: Hi Louise! So glad to chat with one of my favorite #darksideresearch gals. And since your readers won’t know what that is, let’s invite them over on twitter to check out the serious research that romance writers often have to do. Check out #darksideresearch ladies. You don’t want to miss it.
Me: Agreed!!!!!! *warning* getting lost in the lush that is #darksideresearch is more than likely 😉 So, tell us a little bit about Time Changes Everything…
Melinda: Time Changes Everything is a friends to lovers story featuring Jake and Amanda. They grew up together, had crushes on each other, but their crush never turned into anything. Seven years later, they meet up again in NYC, both big-shot professionals. Soon, their crushes reignite and blossom into full-blown steaminess.
Me: Sounds exciting. Is this a standalone or part of a series?
Melinda: When I actually wrote Time Changes Everything, I started with a prologue which has now been turned into a free novella called The Boy Next Door. This novella shows Jake and Amanda as teens and their obvious crush on each other. You can find this on Smashwords at I’m also working on a second novel related to Time Changes Everything. In this novel, currently called New York Minute, Amanda’s shy friend, Veronica, is at the center of the story. She learns to turn on her wild side and takes an unexpected ride with Diego.
Me: Can we expect a bit of spice in Time Changes Everything?
Melinda: Yes, this book is sensual, but it’s not the main part of the novel. It’s more about their relationship and finding their happy ever after. However, you will find a few bedroom (or — ahem — other places) scenes. The Boy Next Door is more of a YA novella, since they are teens. No spiciness, but a lot of tension.
Me: How long did it take you to write Time Change Everything?
Melinda: Oh dear, this is quite embarrassing, but it took me about seven years! I started while on maternity leave and then had to put it on hold as mothering kept me busy. Then, just last year, my hubby asked me why I haven’t finished it. Luckily I listened to him and … voila! Now I have three novels out this year!
Melinda: Yep! I just signed a new contract with Crimson Romance. You can expect my third novel, Breaking the Rules, out on July 8. Hope is used to doing things by the book. When Colin, a sexy doctor and single-father to one of her students tries to convince her to follow her heart, is she willing to break the rules to do so?
Me: Ooh!! Colour me intrigued!!! And CONGRATULATIONS. You are on fire!
Melinda: Thank you. And I’m glad you like the sound of it!
Me: So, any pet peeves in romance novels….
Melinda: That’s a tough question. I love almost all types of romance. I guess I prefer novels that fall out of the expected. Heroes or heroines who are different than what you would normally read.
Me: Describe Jake in Three words…
Melinda: Sexy. Confident. Athletic.
Me: Nice! Describe Amanda in Three words…
Melinda: Independent. Driven. Smart.
Me: Do you like listening to music when you write? Any tracks that inspired you to write Jake and Amanda’s story?
Melinda: Oh yeah! I have a playlist just for them. The one song that is Jake and Amanda’s song is MARRY ME by TRAIN. It still makes my heart pitter patter thinking about how perfect it is for them.
Me: Awwww….
Melinda: *Forever can never be long enough for me, to feel like I’ve had long enough with you…* This is how Jake feels about Amanda. Forever is not enough and it’s ironic, because he always thought he couldn’t make a commitment.
Me: Love it! All the feels!
Melinda: Feels galore! Jake is a sweetie at heart.
Me: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Melinda: Oh, I’m boring.
Me: Lies!
Melinda: If you really want to know….
Me: We do…
Melinda: I’m a middle school teacher by day and a sassy romance writer at night. I have three awesome boys and I love being a boy mom. Plus, they get to take care of me when I’m old.
Me: Haha! Obvs….
Melinda: I fell in love in college with my college sweetheart and moved to Guatemala with him because that’s where he’s from. I’ve lived here for over 16 years!
Me: Romance is well and truly in your blood.
Melinda: We ARE a romance story! He even has the perfect hero name…. RAFAEL. You have to say it with the rolled Spanish “R”  RRRRRafael. 🙂 Sexy!
Me: Very sexy! 😉 So who are your favorite writers??
Melinda: Well, I’m not sure if your YA readers will know my adult contemporary writers- like Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery. But, I also love YA (remember, I’m a middle school teacher!) I love Libba Bray and Jennifer Armentrout
Me: Ooh we love Libba Bray and J. Armentrout over at bookishblurb!!!
Melinda: Oh, goodie! Amazing writers!
Me: In the Time Changes Everything movie who’s playing Jake and Amanda??
Melinda: Amanda would be Alexis Bledel and Jake would be Colin Egglesfield. Since I’m a visual person… I have Time Changes Everything and The Boy Next Door Pinterest boards!!!
Me: Great stuff. So, any advice for aspiring romance writers out there…
Melinda: It may seem obvious, but NEVER GIVE UP! Look, it took me years to get TCE out there! Sometimes you’ll get rejections, but that’s part of the ride. One day, you’ll find the perfect fit, like I did with Entranced Publishing. And the dorkity-dork-dork in me wants to say JUST DO IT! Write, write, write!
Me: Stellar advice. Thanks, M. And thanks heaps for dropping by to chat to us…
Melinda: You are AWESOME and you ROCK and you ROLL and you deserve a whole bag of M&Ms (if I could get my hands on them)
Me: I heart you so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Melinda: Now, get some sleep, young lady!
And that about wraps it up… HUGE thanks to Melinda for the chat and thanks to you guys for stopping by ❤
