I hated it when my birthday fell in the middle of the week. My parents always made me wait until the weekend to celebrate or to do anything fun. It sucked. I put my cup in the sink and trudged up to my room, stepping heavier than necessary as I climbed the stairs. A childish, yet effective way to let Mom and Dad know I wasn’t happy. I didn’t think they cared, though, because they continued to ignore me. They wouldn’t even let me go to Cass’s house to hang out for a few hours. This blows!
With a heavy sigh, I opened my bedroom door. Levi and Tucker were inside waiting for me. Levi sat on my bed and Tucker stood by the window. I grinned. “What are you guys doing here?” I closed my door so my parents wouldn’t hear us. Boys weren’t allowed in my bedroom.
“We’re here to celebrate your birthday,” Tucker said.
“Yeah, we’re breaking you outta here,” Levi said with an adorable lopsided grin.
I glanced from my door to them to the open window. The idea of sneaking out with them was very tempting, but I knew it would end up getting me grounded for the rest of my life. I chewed on my bottom lip.
“Aw, c’mon, Al,” Tucker said. “Don’t be a chicken.”
“We’ve got something extra special planned for you.” Levi winked.
Oh, what the hell, why not? “Okay, let’s go.” I climbed out of my bedroom window with Levi and Tucker closely behind.
