Note that although the beaches in Rio de Janeiro are very open and relaxed, there are a number of differences between them and the beaches in North America and Europe. In addition, according to Brazilian laws, nudism outside designated areas is considered a misdemeanour.
By Sarah Gordon for MailOnline. Brazilians are known for their barely-there beachwear - but when it comes to nudity on the sands, they are much more conservative. But after a campaign by activists, Rio de Janeiro has officially opened its first ever nudist beach - one hour away from the centre of the city. Abrico beach has been designated the city's first nudist enclave, despite many Brazilians frowning upon topless sunbathing and nudity in public areas. Open for business: Abrico , an hour outside of Rio, has been officially designated the city's first nudist beach. Activist Paula Nogueira has praised the move.
Will be in Rio on april 25th and I've read in all so many guide books that the women of course wear thong bikinis. I'm afraid I just don't look good in them, although I am not at all overweight and pretty fit, just look awful inthe thong. Will I be the only one wearing my two piece? Have you seen other foreign women just give in and go for it? Will I just be in a minority not wearing a thong?
Perfect beach destination for adults with no kids and the desire to be nude. There is a local gentleman who offers beach umbrellas, cocktails, and even light snacks. Be sure and bring local currency with you, however.
